In 2007, Rogers Media in Canada purchased a block-formatted, multi-ethnic radio station in Edmonton, “World FM” CKER-FM. When they decided to fill 10 hours a day with a new World Music format instead of block programming, they called on Mike to help design the new format. They desired a relatively familiar sounding format, which made this concept a fairly radical departure from other World Music formats before it that tended to be targeted to World Music connoisseurs. The new World FM music format debuted in mid-2007 as the first World Music format programmed for mainstream radio audiences.
