About Our Consultant:
Skip Pizzi
Skip Pizzi is a Media Technology consultant specializing in digital applications for broadcasters. His background includes 11 years at Microsoft, where he managed several audio and broadcast-related processes.
Skip is also Contributing Editor at Radio World newspaper, and was previously Editor-in-chief at BE Radio magazine. Earlier he spent 13 years at NPR, where he served as technical director for many of the network’s award-winning programs, and founded NPR’s technical training program.
His book, Digital Radio Basics, was the world’s first on the subject of DAB. He is currently writing a book on Studio IP Audio, for publication later this year.
Skip has advised many broadcasters worldwide, both commercial and public. He is a consultant to the NAB FASTROAD-funded project currently developing an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for digital radio in the U.S. Among his other consulting clients are NPR, PRI, CPB, American Public Media, Station Resource Group, BBC, CBC, VOA, Radio Netherlands, Fraunhofer USA, The World Bank, Ford Foundation, Jazz at Lincoln Center, National Endowment for the Arts, the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service, USC Annenberg School of Communication, Johns Hopkins University, Audible.com, and numerous radio stations across the U.S.
He is a frequent speaker at international conferences on broadcasting, audio and music, and has co-chaired the Surround Sound Audio Task Group of the U.S.’s National Radio Systems Committee. Skip also serves as a judge for the National Television Academy’s “Technical Emmy” Awards, and is the winner of the Audio Engineering Society’s Board of Governors Award.
He holds a B.A from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he studied Fine Arts, International Economics and Electrical Engineering.
