The State of the Blues
Little Milton once sang, “Hey. Hey. The Blues is Alright.” Always has been; always will be. Sure, Stevie Ray Vaughans will come and go. But whether the Blues is a million-seller or not, it will never die.
At the top of 2009, the Blues is very much alive and well. This February, at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, organizers have added a Youth Showcase because so many young people under 20 have heard the call. Not only that, but the IBC also scheduled their first Global Showcase featuring dozens of Blues artists from around the world. The IBC is the world’s largest battle of the bands (blues.org).
